Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : A person who catches the third and fourth rak'ahs of the 'Asr prayer and does not catch the middle tashahhud: how does he complete his prayer?

The Shaykh : He completes his prayer according to what remains, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
and pray whatever you get (with the people) and complete the rest which you have missed ما أدركتم فصلوا، وما فاتكم فأتموا
Sahih al-Bukhari 635
So if he catches two rak'ahs with the imam in the 'Asr prayer, for example.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : He makes up two rak'ahs after the imam's taslim, making them up with al-Fatihah only, and he does not add another surah to them. Rather, he adds another surah in the first two rak'ahs that he caught with the imam, if he is able to recite the surah after al-Fatihah before the imam bows; otherwise, they are dropped from him. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh, and may Allah bless you and your knowledge, and benefit the Muslims through you.
