The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in al-Madinah and stayed in the upper part of al-Madinah in a tribe called Banu 'Amr ibn 'Awf, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed with them for fourteen nights, then he sent for Banu al-Najjar, and they came wearing their swords, as if I were looking at the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on his mount, with Abu Bakr behind him, and Banu al-Najjar filled the space around him until he stopped at the courtyard of Abu Ayyub, and he used to like to pray wherever the prayer time caught him, and he would pray in the grazing grounds of the sheep, and he ordered the building of the mosque, so he sent for the leaders of Banu al-Najjar and said: "O Banu al-Najjar, sell me
قدم النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم المدينة فنزل أعلى المدينة في حي يقال لهم بنو عمرو بن عوف، فأقام النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فيهم أربع عشرة ليلةً، ثم أرسل إلى بني النجار فجاءوا متقلدي السيوف كأني أنظر إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم على راحلته وأبو بكر ردفه، وملأ بني النجار حوله حتى ألقى بفناء أبي أيوب، وكان يحب أن يصلي حيث أدركته الصلاة، ويصلي في مرابض الغنم وأنه أمر ببناء المسجد فأرسل إلى ملأ من بني النجار فقال: يا بني النجار ثامنونيThe Shaykh :

this garden of yours." They said: "No, by Allah, we do not seek a price for it except from Allah." Anas said: "In it were, as I tell you, the graves of the polytheists, and in it were ruins, and in it were date palms. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that the graves of the polytheists be dug up, then that the ruins be leveled, and that the date palms be cut down. They arranged the date palms as the qiblah of the mosque, and they made its side walls of stones. They were carrying the rocks while chanting, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was with them, saying: 'O Allah, there is no good except the good of the Hereafter *** so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajirun.'"
بحائطكم هذا، قالوا لا والله لا نطلب ثمنه إلا إلى الله، فقال أنس فكان فيه ما أقول لكم قبور المشركين وفيه خرب وفيه نخ، فأمر النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بقبور المشركين فنبشت ثم بالخرب فسويت وبالنخل فقطع فصفوا النخل قبلة المسجد، وجعلوا عضادتيه الحجارة وجعلوا ينقلون الصخر وهم يرتجزون والنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم معهم وهو يقول:" اللهم لا خير إلا خير الآخره *** فاغفر للأنصار والمهاجرة "
