How to reconcile this hadith with the hadith: “It is better for one of you that his stomach be filled with pus than that he recite poetry”?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : ... their recitation of poetry in the mosque, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ...

The Shaykh : Yes, the intended meaning is poetry that contains idle talk
(224) And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them; (225) Do you not see that in every valley they roam (226) And that they say what they do not do? - (227) Except those [poets] who believe والشعراء يتبعهم الغاوون ألم تر أنهم في كل واد يهيمون وأنهم يقولون ما لا يفعلون إلا الذين آمنوا
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:224-227]
. So, poetry is judged by its subject matter, not by its reciter. If its subject matter is bad, then it is bad. For this reason, some of them said that poetry is like speech: its good is good and its bad is bad.
