The sixth question of Fatwa No. ( 5782 )
Q6: What is the ruling on poetry in Islam, and is singing with the remembrance of Allah in the singing, accompanied by the beating of the hand drum as is done in our country, permissible? And what are the permissible and forbidden poems?
A6: If the poetry contains lies or shirk (associating partners with Allah), or frivolity, or lewdness, or incitement to sin, or the like, it is prohibited. If it contains a call to good, and legal wisdoms, and support for the truth, or the like, it is prescribed. In summary, its ruling is the ruling of what it contains. However, the use of the hand drum is only permissible for women at weddings; to announce the marriage, and likewise on the days of the festival for women only.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
