The Ruling on Composing and Listening to Poetry

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner: What is the ruling on poetry, specifically amorous poetry and Nabati poetry? And is it permissible for a woman to write poetry as a mere hobby? Please guide us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The Shaykh: Arabic poetry that contains no harm is permissible; there is nothing wrong with it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
In poetry there is wisdom.إن من الشعر حكمة
Sunan Abi Dawud 5010Sahih (Al-Albani)
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also heard the poetry of Hassan, the poetry of Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa, and the poetry of Abdullah ibn Rawahah.
The point is that there is nothing wrong with poetry that contains no harm, such as reciting poetry about generosity and nobility, encouraging obedience to Allah, warning against sins, dutifulness to parents, maintaining family ties, and prohibiting intoxicants and sins, whether by a man or a woman. Good poetry is permissible, yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
