The questioner : May Allah protect you, O Shaykh. I led the prayer and had a state of ritual impurity during the prayer, but I told myself that I was not sure, although deep down I knew my physical condition. After finishing the prayer, it actually turned out that some urine had come out. May Allah protect you and my fellow listeners. I repeated my prayer, I regretted my action, and I gave up leading the prayer. What is required of me?
The Shaykh : If a person has a state of ritual impurity while he is the imam and he is certain of it, it is obligatory for him to leave the prayer, and it is not permissible for him to continue in it while he knows of his state of ritual impurity. In this case, he should order one of those behind him to complete the prayer with the congregation. He should say, "O so-and-so, come forward and complete the prayer with the congregation," whether that is in the first rak'ah, the second rak'ah, the third rak'ah, or the last rak'ah. If he does not appoint anyone, the congregation has the choice between completing their prayers individually or appointing one of them to complete the prayer with the congregation.
Likewise, if a person enters the prayer while forgetting his state of ritual impurity and then remembers during the prayer that he is not in a state of ritual purity, he should do what we mentioned regarding the one who has a state of ritual impurity during the prayer. That is, he must leave the prayer and say to some of the congregation, "Come forward, O so-and-so, and complete the prayer with the congregation." If he does not do so, they have the choice: if they wish, they complete their prayers individually, and if they wish, they appoint someone to complete the prayer with the congregation.
This applies to the one whose state of ritual impurity is known, meaning he had a state of ritual impurity during the prayer and knew of it with certainty, or he forgot that he prayed while in a state of ritual impurity and then remembered during the prayer.
As for the one who feels something during his prayer and is unsure whether something came out of him or not, he is not required to leave the prayer, because the original state is the continuation of his ritual purity. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about a man who imagines that he finds something in his prayer, and he said:Sahih Muslim 361 It is obligatory for him to proceed in his prayer and not pay attention to the doubt. Then, if he becomes certain afterwards that he had a state of ritual impurity with certainty during the prayer itself, he must repeat the prayer. As for the congregation, they are not required to repeat the prayer. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah bless you. The listener says.
