(Explanation of the eighteenth type of evidence for the Exaltedness, which is Allah’s purifying Himself of every defect and blemish, and mentioning the things by which Allah purified Himself; had the Exaltedness been an attribute of deficiency, Allah would have purified Himself of it, and this is a subtle argument)

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
This chapter is the eighteenth, concerning the evidence for the Exaltedness of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). The point, in brief, is that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) purified Himself of every defect and blemish, is that not so? The author mentioned examples. For these people, the Exaltedness is a defect and a blemish. So why did He not purify Himself of it in a single verse of the Qur'an, even though the things from which Allah purified Himself are divided into three categories: a category that no one affirmed, a category that individuals affirmed, and a category that sects affirmed. Allah denied all of them regarding Himself. But the Exaltedness of Allah is something that all creation affirmed; they all affirmed the Exaltedness of Allah, yet He did not purify Himself of it even once. This indicates that the Exaltedness is an attribute of perfection, not an attribute of deficiency. Otherwise, if it were an attribute of deficiency as these people claim, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) would have clarified it and denied it regarding Himself. It is clear, my brothers. This is a subtle argument that is hidden from many people. How do we say that the denial of deficiencies regarding Allah indicates the establishment of His Exaltedness? The point is: if the Exaltedness were a deficiency, as you mentioned, what would happen? Allah would have purified Himself of it. All right, then we return to the poem, to the verses. He says:
"This is the eighteenth: His purifying, (Glorified and Exalted is He), of what necessitates deficiency"
He is purified of everything that necessitates deficiency.
And We did certainly create the heavens and earth and what is between them in six days ولقد خلقنا السماوات والأرض وما بينهما في ستة أيام
[Qaf 50:38]
And this requires power and strength.
and there touched Us no weariness. وما مسنا من لغوب
[Qaf 50:38]
This is a denial of deficiency. And he said:
"And of blemishes, and of what necessitates likening and comparison" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the Dajjal:
He is blind in one eye, and your Lord is not blind in one eye إنه أعور وإن ربكم ليس بأعور
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2245Sahih (Darussalam)
and blindness is a blemish. And regarding what necessitates likening and comparison, Allah the Exalted said:
There is nothing like unto Him ليس كمثله شيء
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
The comparison here means likening, not comparison in the absolute sense, as has passed us by many times.
