This is a simile of the utmost precision. The armies of faith possess life, and the flood possesses life, while the worms possess... rot and corruption. So, by this, he compared the armies of faith to what? To the flood, and these [enemies] to the worms. It is well known that when a flood passes over worms, it crushes them.
