The Shaykh : His statement that "the people had broken him" means that he had grown old... and they were young and strong compared to him, so he was considered broken or weakened in relation to them. It does not mean that the people were aggressive toward him, or that they insulted him, hit him, or did anything like that. No, she means that after he grew old and became one of the oldest people in age, that is the meaning of "the people had broken him." Yes.
