And others came with a ladder and a tool *** and brought a law upon a structure, and brought that as a thinker and a planner *** and al-Walid, the worshipper of idols, inherited it (and the one intended by al-Walid here)

The Shaykh :"And others came with a ladder and a tool *** and brought a law upon a structure
and brought that as a thinker and a planner *** and al-Walid, the worshipper of idols, inherited it"
By "others," he means the people of denial of the divine attributes (ta'til). They came with a ladder, a tool, and a law. The law referred to is the law of speech: if such is the case, then such must follow; if Allah is above, then He must be a body; if He is a body, then He must be similar to the created; and so on. Thus, they brought a law. Pharaoh did not bring such a law. What did he do? He denied it outright. He said:[Al-Qasas 28:38] He is therefore better in conduct than them, because he is more explicit than them. As for these, they brought these laws and play with them over the people. He says:
"And al-Walid, the worshipper of idols, inherited [it]."Who is al-Walid? It is al-Walid ibn 'Uqbah, about whom Allah said:[Al-Muddaththir 74:18-23] And the result is[Al-Muddaththir 74:24-25] these theologians who deny the divine attributes have started to think and estimate, and they bring forth laws and weak arguments that they claim are rational, but they are delusions and not the truth. So they have now inherited [the ways of] Pharaoh, the companion of Moses, and they have inherited al-Walid, one of the leaders of disbelief in this Ummah.
The student: Is it not al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah?
The Shaykh : What did I say?
The student: Al-Walid ibn 'Uqbah.
The Shaykh : No, it is al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah. Yes, he says: "And al-Walid, the worshipper of idols, inherited it".
