The Meaning of the Poet's Statement: "So listen, for this is the cause of misguidance and the origin of confusion, when the two disputants look at each other, arguing with the compound word, knowing its meaning by its context"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He says: "So listen, for this is the cause of misguidance and the origin of confusion, when the two disputants look at each other"
The cause is: "arguing with the compound word, knowing its meaning by its context"
A person who knows the meaning of speech only argues with it when it is a compound. As for when it is distributed and torn apart, and each word is brought on its own, it is not speech in reality. If we said "Zayd stood up" or "Zayd came riding," and we separated these three words, saying "stood up," making "Zayd" alone and "riding" alone, would it convey meaning? No, it does not. Words in themselves do not convey meaning except through composition, and composition specifies the meaning, specifying it such that no other meaning is permissible except the one indicated by the composition.
