The Meaning of the Poet's Saying: "Oh, would that they had given the texts of revelation *** this same treatment as the reports and the Qur'an. But in their view, those texts are *** merely literal appearances, isolated from certainty"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"Oh, would that they had given the texts of revelation *** this same treatment as the reports and the Qur'an"
He says, and by Allah, I wish they had given the texts of the Qur'an and the Sunnah this treatment, and acted upon their apparent meanings. The Salaf used to act upon the texts of the Book and the Sunnah how? Upon their apparent meanings. And among their famous and well-known phrases is their saying: "They let them be as they came, without asking how"
"But in their view, those texts are *** merely literal appearances, isolated from certainty"
"Those" refers to the texts of the Book and the Sunnah. He says:
"Those texts are *** merely literal appearances, isolated from certainty"
Meaning, they do not indicate certainty in any way, but their indication is literal and open to figurative interpretation.
"They have not benefited the seeker of truth *** who seeks evidence and the requirement of proof"
This is their statement, and it is not far-fetched that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has sealed their hearts because they did not desire the truth. And Allah the Exalted said:
No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. كلا بل ران على قلوبهم ما كانوا يكسبون
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:14]
So the person who does not desire the truth cannot be guided by the texts of the Book and the Sunnah. And how can one be roasted by fire if he sees that it is not fire? It is impossible. Therefore, no person can benefit from the Book and the Sunnah except one who knows that they are the truth and that they indicate what their apparent meanings require.
