The Meaning of the Hashawiyyah and the Reason the People of Falsehood Gave the People of the Sunnah This Title

The Shaykh : In this chapter, the author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned that the people of innovation gave the people of hadith, who are the Salaf, a bad title, calling them Hashawiyyah. Hashw means the extra thing that has no good in it; that is its meaning. So they say these are Hashawiyyah, meaning that they are from the fringes of the people, not from their leaders, and not from the people of knowledge among them, but rather they are the dregs. He (may Allah have mercy on him) says, let us look at who is more deserving of the title, us or you?
