What is the position of a Sunni regarding the great scholars who were afflicted with some religious innovations and deviation from the Salaf?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Regarding the fact that they were subjected to a strong attack based on the Book and the Sunnah, O Shaykh, how do we view scholars who have a sincere standing in knowledge, yet are afflicted with these delusions in creed? What should be our position toward them, may Allah have mercy on them, given that they served the Sunnah and the Book?

The Shaykh : Yes, our position toward them is that we honor them, respect them, and love them for their support of the Sunnah, but we do not praise them for their deviation from the Salaf; we do not praise them for that. So we treat them with justice. Justice is to give every right its due. And it is the methodology of the people of the Sunnah and the community that a person may possess a trait of good and a trait of evil, a trait of obedience and a trait of disobedience, a trait of faith and a trait of disbelief. Yes, that is correct.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Yes, who says this? Adam, Adam says the time is up, yes.
The reciter: In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.
