Allah is the Greatest. It is forbidden for anyone to marry them after him, so that they would not be a bed for anyone other than him (peace and blessings be upon him). This is a special privilege, not because he was alive, but because Allah was grateful to them, so He granted them this special privilege. Therefore, the wives of the martyrs: are they forbidden or permissible? They are permissible, even though they are alive.
