Explaining the Meaning of the Manganiq and What Is Intended by It

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We now begin this chapter with an explanation, for we have read it previously, so we explain it, seeking help from Allah. The author says:
"A Chapter on Breaking the Manganiq That the People of Denial of the Divine Attributes Set Up Against the Fortresses and Strongholds of Faith, Generation After Generation"
The manganiq or munjaniq is a war machine used in combat, resembling what is now called cannons. The manganiq referred to here is the argument that the people of denial of the divine attributes made their basis. They said that affirming the attributes necessitates composition, and composition is impossible because it necessitates being created from one aspect, and the composed thing’s dependence on what is with it from the composed. If the necessary consequence is false, then the necessitating factor is false. Therefore, we do not affirm the attributes out of fear of what? Of composition.
