The Meaning of the Poet's Words: "Have you seen this mangonel? For they *** set it up beneath the strongholds of faith. Its stones reached the fortresses and destroyed the *** battlements, and it took control of the walls"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Ibn al-Qayyim says:
"Have you seen this mangonel? For they *** set it up beneath the strongholds of faith
Its stones reached the fortresses and destroyed the *** battlements, and it took control of the walls"

He says: "Tell me about this mangonel; upon what did they set it up? They set it up beneath the strongholds of faith. 'Al-Ma'aqil' is the plural of 'ma'qil,' which is the place where a person takes refuge and fortifies himself.
"Its stones reached the fortresses" means that it reaches [them], and it is not an easy mangonel, but the author (may Allah have mercy on him) will clarify that its effect is weak.
"And it destroyed the *** battlements, and it took control of the walls.
How many a fortress the disbelievers have taken control of from this harmful mangonel"

Yes, this fortress that they set up against the strongholds of faith has become a ladder for the disbelievers to deny what is established by mass transmission. For example, the people of tashbih (likening Allah to creation) denied the realities of faith in the Last Day, relying on the same cause by which the people of ta'til (denial of the divine attributes) denied the attributes of Allah. They say that faith in the Last Day is not accepted by reason: "Who can give life to bones when they are broken?" And those who denied the attributes of Allah said that reason does not accept them either, and if reason does not accept them, then we do not affirm them. So this mangonel that they set up against the strongholds of faith has become a ladder for the disbelievers to rely upon in their disbelief.
