Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Recall, O honorable Shaykh Muhammad, that she is a girl aged twenty-three who is committed and praises Allah for that. She says, but the problem is that her father has been consuming alcohol and intoxicants for a long time, and this is in secret. She says: But by virtue of my work in the house, I became aware of it. What is obligatory upon me, knowing that I am unable to confront and advise in such matters? I ask the honorable Shaykh for an answer regarding this?

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets, the Imam of the Pious, and the Intimate Friend of the Lord of the worlds, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment. It is obligatory for this woman to give advice to her father by any means, because dutifulness to the parents includes that a child gives them advice. Did you not see Ibrahim (peace be upon him) when he said to his father:
O my father, why do you worship that which does not hear and does not see and will not benefit you at all? يَا أَبَتِ لِمَ تَعْبُدُ مَا لا يَسْمَعُ وَلا يُبْصِرُ وَلا يُغْنِي عَنْكَ شَيْئًا
[Maryam 19:42]
and he advised him.
Likewise, it is obligatory for us to advise our fathers and mothers by any means. If this questioner is unable to confront her father, then it is obligatory for her to write him a letter without a signature, reminding him of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and explaining to him the evidence indicating the prohibition of alcohol and the threat for its drinker. Perhaps Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) will save him from that.
She should not despair of the reform of her father, for how many a person was corrupt, and Allah the Exalted reformed him by the slightest cause. And Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) turns hearts, turning them however He wills.
We ask Allah for guidance for her father, and we ask Allah for assistance for her. Yes.

The questioner : Recall her second question, O honorable Shaykh, and the last one.
