Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I have a son who is married and has a child, and he lives with me in the house, but he drinks alcohol, may Allah protect us from that, daily, and causes me problems with the family, in addition to his uttering of obscene words and also words of disbelief, may Allah protect us from that, despite my advice to him to leave alcohol and to conduct himself with the family in a good manner that Allah Mighty and Majestic is pleased with. Do I have the right to expel him from the house because he is an undutiful son? And how should I deal with him so that Allah does not become angry with me or I bear the sin, because I am a man who is a pilgrim to the Sacred House of Allah and I fear punishment, and despite the fact that I am old in age, and so is the mother, I ask you to advise and guide us in this matter, may you be rewarded?

The Shaykh : First, I offer advice to this son who has been afflicted with this calamity, which is drinking alcohol. I say to him: Drinking alcohol is among the major sins, and alcohol is the key to all evil, and it is forbidden by the Book, the Sunnah, and the consensus of the Muslims. Allah Blessed and Exalted is He said:
(90) O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful. (91) Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?
[Al-Ma'idah 5:90-91]
It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he
He cursed the drinker of alcohol لعن شارب الخمر
It is established from him that he said:
Every intoxicant is Khamr and every intoxicant is forbidden. كل مسكر خمر، وكل مسكر حرام
Sahih Muslim 2003b
It is reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that whoever drinks alcohol in this world will not drink it in the Hereafter. The texts on this are numerous and known to many people. It is obligatory for this son who has been afflicted with this calamity to repent to Allah Mighty and Majestic, to quit it, to stay away from those who drink it, and not to let it be on his mind until Allah grants him guidance. And Allah Mighty and Majestic, when He knows from His servant the sincerity of intention in pure repentance, then Allah Glorified and Exalted is He will accept his repentance and facilitate it for him and make it easy for him.
As for the second piece of advice, it is for you, O brother the questioner, and for your family, to thank Allah Glorified and Exalted for His blessing, in that He has spared you from what this person has been afflicted with, and to try to advise him as much as possible. If it is facilitated and Allah guides him, that is for you and for him. And if he does not do so, there is no blame on you in expelling him from the house. In fact, it may be obligatory that you expel him from the house so that his evil does not spread to those in the house, and so that there does not occur from him what has no good outcome, such as aggression against his mother or his sisters or against you, O questioner, or otherwise.
The important thing is that if he does not stop what he was doing of these evils, then it is obligatory for you to expel him from the house. Perhaps by expelling him, you will be a cause for his guidance, if he sees that the matter has become narrow for him and that he has become an outcast, driven away from his family. Perhaps he will return to Allah Mighty and Majestic and repent to Allah. I do not see that you should keep him in the house at all. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you, O honorable Shaykh. This questioner, K, actually did not mention the country here, that he says.
