The questioner : I prayed in one of the mosques at the time of the midday prayer, and a lot of rain had fallen, and there was a lake of water near the mosque, so the imam combined the midday and afternoon prayers. As for our mosque, it was suitable and did not warrant combining. Is my prayer in the other mosque where he combined valid? And if it is not valid, do I have to repeat the afternoon prayer now? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : If you prayed with a congregation and their imam combined the midday and afternoon prayers, or the sunset and night prayers, and the reason for combining was present, which is the excuse.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Then your prayer is valid and it is not obligatory for you to repeat it. As for if the imam wanted to combine and the reason, meaning the reason for the permissibility of combining, was not present, then you should advise him first before he begins to combine. Combining without a legal excuse is a major sin from the major sins, and the prayer is not valid if it is a combination by bringing forward, because it was prayed before its time; I mean the second prayer is not valid because it was prayed before its time. If he insists on combining, then you do not leave; pray with them and intend it as a voluntary prayer. Then when the time for the night prayer or the afternoon prayer comes, pray it. This is because your leaving in this situation leads to discord, conflict, and hatred from you or toward you. Yes.

The questioner : Okay. He says, may the Shaykh be honored.
