The Shaykh :"And look at the action of the Messenger, and you will find that he *** revealed the intended meaning and brought forth clarification".
May Allah send prayers and peace upon him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in all the hadiths that described his ablution, did not mention that he washed the upper arm or washed the lower leg. The most that is there is what Muslim narrated from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah: This is because it is not possible for the water to reach the ankles unless one begins with the lower leg, and likewise regarding the upper arm. As for reaching up until it rises, he said:
"And whoever is able to lengthen his white mark, then it *** is stopped at the narrator, who is the upper one".
He is referring to his statement in the hadith:Sahih Muslim 246b. He says:
"This is stopped at the narrator, who is the upper one". Who is the upper narrator? Abu Hurayrah, because he is the end of the chain.

That he washed until he began with the upper arm, and until he began with the lower leg, and he said: This is how I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) doing it
أنه غسل حتى أشرع في العضد، وحتى أشرع في الساق، وقال: هكذا رأيت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يفعل"And whoever is able to lengthen his white mark, then it *** is stopped at the narrator, who is the upper one".
He is referring to his statement in the hadith:
so he who can increase the lustre of his forehead (and that of his hands and legs) should do so.
فمن استطاع منكم أن يطيل غرته وتحجيله فليفعل"This is stopped at the narrator, who is the upper one". Who is the upper narrator? Abu Hurayrah, because he is the end of the chain.
