And Allah has made women captives by law, so the husband became the captive (meaning of *'awani*)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Allah has made women *'awani*, meaning like captives in the hands of men, so the husband became the *'ani*, meaning the situation was reversed; the husband became the captive. It is as if Ibn al-Qayyim is observing the state of many people today. Today, the husband has become a captive to his wife; whatever she wants, he does. He even carries his son and the goods he buys from the market; his son rides in the car while he carries the goods in his hand, and the wife sits back, having nothing to do at all. This is the opposite of the truth.
The wife of al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam used to carry date pits from Madinah, the pits you call *'abbas* or *fudam*, from Madinah to his orchard outside the city. Yes, this is the truth. They are *'awani*, but we must fear Allah regarding them and give them what we would like to be given, yes, what we would like to be given.
There is no question.
