The Shaykh : This second type is not a pretentious scholar, nor a self-styled shaykh, nor does he wear a wide turban, nor does he claim to be the unique scholar. But he is an envious one who does not want Ibn al-Qayyim to have any merit. If I say, "This is the sea," he says, "This is a mirage; you have no sea." If I say, "This is the sun," he says, "The sun has not risen until now." When it is the word of Allah and His Messenger, he becomes angry, may Allah protect us from that, and he comes with concealment. If it is a hadith, he says, "This is not authentic; this is an ahad report and is not authentic." If it cannot be refuted in terms of its establishment, he goes to distort it.
