The Shaykh : Yes, this aspect is close to what we mentioned first, that they understood that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) feared that they might have doubted this matter. It is well known that if they doubted, this doubt would become a cause for the descent of punishment. So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to ask them to inquire about everything so that he could inform them, thereby making it clear that he is a Messenger to whom revelation is sent (peace and blessings be upon him).
And in his saying:
and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said repeatedly: Ask me, and (it was at this juncture that 'Umar knelt down and said): We are well pleased with Allah as our Lord, with Islam as our code of life and with Muhammad as the Messenger (of Allah).
Sahih Muslim 2359c
, and he only asked that because it seems that he (may Allah be pleased with him) heard from people something inappropriate regarding him—namely, that Abdullah—having no father or something similar. So he wanted to clarify to people that his father is the well-known Hudhafah.
The Prophet (ﷺ) repeatedly said, "Ask me." Then `Umar knelt before him and said, "We are pleased with Allah as our Lord, Islam as our religion, and Muhammad as our Prophet."
Sahih al-Bukhari 540
, and this points to what we mentioned first regarding his frequent saying, "Ask me." He knelt on his knees, and perhaps he (may Allah be pleased with him) was not kneeling before that, either sitting cross-legged or otherwise. Kneeling on the knees indicates a person’s readiness, especially if he stretches out and raises his back, and he said in a loud voice what 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned.
He says:
We are pleased with Allah as our Lord

The second says:
With Islam as our religion
, Islam has two meanings: a general meaning and a specific meaning. Islam in the general sense is submission to Allah the Exalted in what He has prescribed, in every Shari'ah according to its own terms. So the followers of 'Isa when his Shari'ah was in effect are called Muslims,
The disciples said, "We are supporters for Allah. قال الحواريون نحن أنصار الله
[Ali 'Imran 3:52]
,
We have believed in Allah and testify that we are Muslims [submitting to Him].
[Ali 'Imran 3:52]

And so did the people of Musa say. Musa said to them:
then rely upon Him, if you should be Muslims." فعلى الله توكلوا إن كنتم مسلمين
[Yunus 10:84]
, and so did Ibrahim say, and so did Ya'qub say:
And Abraham instructed his sons [to do the same] and [so did] Jacob, [saying], "O my sons, indeed Allah has chosen for you this religion, so do not die except while you are Muslims."
[Al-Baqarah 2:132]
, and so did the Queen of Saba say:
My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I submit with Solomon to Allah, Lord of the worlds." ربي إني نذرت نفسي وأسلمت مع سليمان لله رب العالمين
[An-Naml 27:44]
.
As for after the sending of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), Islam came to have a specific meaning, which is the Shari'ah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and nothing else. So whatever is other than that is not a religion acceptable to Allah. Allah Blessed and Exalted is He said:
And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him
[Ali 'Imran 3:85]
.
And the fact that some of the weak-minded people now seek nearness to the Christians by saying that your religion is a heavenly religion, and likewise to the Jews that their religion is a heavenly religion. We say: Yes, it is a heavenly religion, but it contains distortion, alteration, and change in one aspect. Also, it is heavenly, but it has been abrogated by His Shari'ah, which is Allah Mighty and Majestic. By what was it abrogated?
By the sending of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). So the heavenly religion that Allah accepts is the religion of Islam.
Then he said:
Paradise and Hell-fire were displayed in front of me on this wall just now
Sahih al-Bukhari 540
, who presented it?
Allah Mighty and Majestic. And it is obligatory for us to believe in that as we heard it, and we do not say how Paradise and Hellfire are the width of a wall, when we have not seen them. Paradise is the width of the heavens and the earth; how can it be the width of a wall? And Hellfire is in the lowest depths; how can it be the width of a wall? We say it is not permissible for us to raise these objections. Who informed us?
The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). We say: We heard and we believed and we had faith, whether our minds grasped this or not. And we see now, and we do not say this by way of analogy, but by way of approximation. You find on the television screen an image of a bird, is that not so? An image of men, even if the television is the smallest it can be. Televisions have now appeared the size of the palm of the hand, the size of the hand, and you see what you see on the television is large. This is made by whom?
Made by humans. So how about the power of the Creator Mighty and Majestic? And we say this not by way of analogy, but by way of approximation.
And in the hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
you shall see your Lord as you see the moon
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2554Sahih (Darussalam)
This is certainly not by way of analogy, but by way of verification of the vision. That is, just as we verify our seeing of the moon on the night of the full moon, so we verify our seeing of Allah in Paradise. May Allah make us and you among those who see it in Paradise. Amen.
And his saying:
I have not seen anything like good.
On which side? On the side of Paradise. And evil is on the side of Hellfire. Yes, is that the end?
We did not hear...

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Why did you not teach us? Did you hear my clock now? Glory be to Allah, you are deceptive.
Yes, but if Allah wills, the next lesson, before we start, each of you writes the question that has a difficulty for you, if Allah wills, for the next lesson, unless you allow...
