Explanation of the Hadith

The Shaykh : And in the statement of 'Umar "I agreed with my Lord in three matters", there is evidence of the proper conduct of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the oneness of lordship, for is it 'Umar who agreed, or the verses that were revealed?
The student: The verses.

The Shaykh : The verses, because the one who came first is the one who agreed, and the one who came later is the one who followed. But out of respect for Allah (Mighty and Majestic), he said: "I agreed with my Lord in three matters". Now, regarding his statement
take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer
[Al-Baqarah 2:125]
there are two readings: *ittakhadhu* and *ittakhidhu*, and the verse of the hijab
I wish you ordered your wives to cover themselves from the men because good and bad ones talk to them.' So the verse of the veiling of the women was revealed. -3. Once the wives of the Prophet
Sahih al-Bukhari 402
this is the third matter on which they agreed.
so I said to them, "It may be, if he divorced you all, that Allah will give him, instead of you wives better than you." So this Verse was revealed.
Sahih al-Bukhari 4916
, and for this reason, 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was guided to the truth, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
If there are any among you who are inspired
if there are any among you who are inspired,
it is 'Umar فعمر
it is 'Umar. But this does not mean that he is infallible from error. He made mistakes and returned to the right path, and he made mistakes and remained in them until the matter became clear regarding him. Among these was the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. In the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, he was among those who opposed the treaty, even arguing with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) about it. He went to Abu Bakr, and Abu Bakr's response was exactly the same as the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) response. And when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) died, 'Umar stood up among the people and denied the death of the Messenger, saying: "He has only fainted, and Allah will surely send him back, and I will surely cut off the hands and feet of some people from behind, the hands and feet of some people from behind". Abu Bakr came to him calmly and said to him: "Be careful", and he silenced him. Then he descended from the pulpit, ascended the pulpit, and recited the saying of Allah the Exalted:
You will surely die, and they will surely die
and His saying:
Muhammad is not but a messenger. [Other] messengers have passed on before him. So if he was to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels
[Ali 'Imran 3:144]
'Umar said: "So I knew that it was the truth, until I was so overcome that I could not stand on my legs".
And the third time was in the wars of the people of apostasy, where he had opposition in that matter, until Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) presented evidence to him and he was convinced. Likewise, in the compilation of the Qur'an. The important point is that 'Umar is undoubtedly inspired and guided to the truth, but this does not mean that he never makes a mistake.
