The reciter: Yahya ibn Bukayr narrated to us, Al-Layth narrated to us, from 'Aqil, from Ibn Shihab, who informed me that 'Urwah informed him that 'Aishah informed him: Sahih al-Bukhari 2012 Yunus followed him in this narration.
The Shaykh : May the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him.
This was in Ramadan. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to pray in the mosque, even though he preferred to pray in his house and encouraged his Ummah to pray in their houses, meaning the voluntary prayers. He said:Bulugh al-Maram 2:313 But there may have been a reason for him to leave his house and perform voluntary prayer in the mosque. And you know that the virtue attached to the act of worship itself is more deserving of consideration than the virtue attached to its place. So perhaps the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was considering something when he went out to pray the standing prayer of Ramadan in the mosque. And what Allah (Mighty and Majestic) willed was that the people gathered to him and increased in number, and then he left it, fearing that it would be made obligatory.
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went out in the middle of the night and prayed in the mosque and some men prayed behind him. In the morning, the people spoke about it and then a large number of them gathered and prayed behind him (on the second night). In the next morning the people again talked about it and on the third night the mosque was full with a large number of people. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came out and the people prayed behind him. On the fourth night the Mosque was overwhelmed with people and could not accommodate them, but the Prophet (ﷺ) came out (only) for the morning prayer. When the morning prayer was finished he recited Tashah-hud and (addressing the people) said, "Amma ba'du, your presence was not hidden from me but I was afraid lest the night prayer (Qiyam) should be enjoined on you and you might not be able to carry it on."
The Shaykh : May the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him.
