Chapter: The prayer of the pursuer and the pursued, while riding and by gesture.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: Chapter: The prayer of the pursuer and the pursued, while riding and by gesture.
And al-Walid said:
I mentioned to al-Awza'i the prayer of Sharahbil ibn al-Samit and his companions on the back of a mount, and he said: That is the practice with us if there is a fear of missing the time, and al-Walid argued with the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): No one should pray the 'Asr prayer except in Banu Qurayzah
.

The Shaykh : It means that al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) does not distinguish between the pursuer and the pursued, meaning in delaying the prayer from its time. And al-Walid argued with the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
None should offer the 'Asr prayer but at Bani Quraiza. لا يصلين أحد العصر إلا في بني قريظة
Sahih al-Bukhari 946
and they caught up with them during the time of the 'Asr prayer. So some of them delayed it until the time passed, in order not to pray except in Banu Qurayzah, and some of them prayed within the time. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not disapprove of either these or those, because they were all mujtahids (scholars qualified to derive rulings). And a mujtahid, if he errs, has one reward, and if he hits the mark, he has two rewards. But there is no doubt that one of them is the one who hit the mark. Yes. And someone might say that each of them hit the mark and that both matters are permissible in this and that, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
None should offer the 'Asr prayer but at Bani Quraiza. لا يصلين أحد العصر إلا في بني قريظة
Sahih al-Bukhari 946
It is possible that revelation came to the Messenger that the prayer should not be performed except in that place. But the closer view is that one of them hit the mark, and the one who hit the mark is the one who prayed within the time, because the one who prayed within the time relied on evidence with no ambiguity, and those who delayed relied on evidence with ambiguity. So praying at its time is a confirmed matter with no ambiguity, and their delaying it until Banu Qurayzah carries the possibility that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) intended the prayer to be in Banu Qurayzah, or that he intended to hasten in going out to them. And the second is closer. And Allah knows best.

The questioner : Shaykh, may Allah reward you. You mentioned, may Allah preserve you, that they were all mujtahids, with "kull" (all) in the accusative case. Is it because it is a substitute (badal)?

The Shaykh : A substitute? It is not a substitute.

The questioner : Then why?

The Shaykh : Why? Because it is for emphasis.

The questioner : Emphasis of the accusative pronoun?

The Shaykh : Yes, emphasis of the accusative pronoun. And it is permissible to raise it, in which case "kull" becomes the subject (mubtada') and what follows it becomes the predicate (khabar), and the sentence becomes the predicate of "inna". This and that are permissible. Yes.
The reader: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon the noblest of the prophets and messengers, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions. As for what follows:
Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his Sahih, in the Book of the Prayer of Fear:
Chapter: The prayer of the pursuer and the pursued, while riding and by gesture.
And al-Walid said.

The Shaykh : We have read this.
The reader: Chapter: Hastening and praying in the darkness of dawn, and praying during raids and war.

The Shaykh : We stopped at the chapter: "Haddathana" (It was narrated to us).
The reader: I have the chapter of hastening and praying in the darkness of dawn.

The Shaykh : Before the chapter of hastening.
The reader: The hadith of Qurayzah?

The Shaykh : Yes, the chapter of "Haddathana".
The reader: I do not have it.

The Shaykh : Do you not have it? It is not found in some copies... Do you all not have this? Is it in al-Fath? No, it varies. Yes, it varies.
