Explanation of the Book of Friday Prayer and the Two Festivals-06a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Rahim narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Sulayman narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn Abi Bakr ibn Anas informed us from Anas ibn Malik, who said:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) would not go out on the day of the breaking of the fast till he ate some dates كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لا يغدو يوم الفطر حتى يأكل تمرات
Bulugh al-Maram 2:412
.
And Marja ibn Rajja said: 'Ubayd Allah narrated to me, Anas narrated to me from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
And he ate them in an odd number ويأكلهن وتراً
.

The Shaykh : This is the day of al-Fitr; it is best for a person to eat before he goes out, and to eat dates, and for them to be in an odd number, and the hadith is clear in this.
The wisdom behind this is that he goes out to prayer energetic and strong. As for al-Adha, he does not eat until he returns, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone]. فصل لربك وانحر
[Al-Kawthar 108:2]
So the slaughter was made after the prayer, and he was commanded to eat from the sacrifice, so He said:
Eat from it كلوا منها
For this reason, the jurists said that it is recommended that one not eat anything on the day of al-Adha until he returns, slaughters his sacrifice, and eats from it.
