The intercession of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for his uncle Abu Talib in alleviating the punishment.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : However, given this man's—meaning Abu Talib's—defense of Islam and of the Messenger of Islam, Allah permitted His Messenger to intercede for him. Allah permitted His Messenger to intercede for him, even though he was a disbeliever. But what was his state?
He was in a shallow pool of fire, with sandals on him from which his brain boiled. كان في ضحضاح من نار وعليه نعلان يغلي منهما دماغه
And what is below the brain? Yes, because the feet are the lowest part of the body, and the brain is the highest. So if the highest part of the body, which is the farthest from the feet, is boiling, we ask Allah for safety and well-being, then what is below the brain is all the more so.
But the matter does not end at this point. He is the least of the people of the Fire in punishment, yet he sees himself as the most severely punished. He sees himself as the most severely punished. When a person sees that he is the most severely punished, the punishment increases for him. Does the punishment increase for him in physical or psychological pain? By Allah, I do not know about you. By Allah, you see what I want; you answer as I want. I say: if the person being punished sees that he is the most severely punished of people, does his heartache increase or not? It increases without a doubt. But if he saw that he was the least of people in punishment, the matter would be light for him. And for this reason, Allah the Exalted said—just wait a moment so the sleep leaves you—Allah the Exalted said:
And never will it benefit you that Day, when you have wronged, that you are [all] sharing in the punishment.ولا ينفعكم اليوم إذ ظلمتم أنكم في العذاب مشتركون
[Az-Zukhruf 43:39]
Whereas in this world, when people share in the punishment, the matter becomes light for them, as al-Khansa said in her elegy for her brother Sakhr, where she said: "And were it not for the multitude of mourners around me for their brothers, I would have killed myself" This indicates that when a person is joined by others in his pain and punishment, the matter becomes light for him, is that not so? Did you understand what I am saying? When a person is joined by others in the punishment, it becomes light for him. Do you agree to that?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : May Allah bless you. Rest, then.
The important thing is that His saying, the Exalted:
Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge? ألم يجدك يتيما فآوى
[Ad-Duhaa 93:6]
is a confirmed matter.
