Did Abu Talib not know of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) intercession for him because he considered himself the most severely punished of people?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student: Abu Talib...

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) interceded for his uncle Abu Talib and said
Were it not for me, he would have been in the bottom-most depth of the Fire. لولا أنا لكان في الدرك الاسفل من النار
Sahih al-Bukhari 6208
and he considered himself the most severely punished of people. Yes, because if he had considered himself the least punished, he would have found comfort in it.

The Shaykh : Yes
The student: Does that mean he did not know of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) intercession for him that he was in this blazing fire? Or did he know, but he considered himself the most severely punished of people?

The Shaykh : Whether he knew or did not know, he considered himself the most severely punished of people. And it is for Allah to know whether He informed him that he deserved the lowest level of the Fire, but Allah granted him the intercession of the Messenger. It is possible that Allah informed him of this to let him know that Allah had rewarded him and compensated him for what he did for the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). And it is possible that Allah did not inform him. Yes.
