J - His (peace and blessings be upon him) intercession for his uncle Abu Talib.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The third type of specific intercession belonging to the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) is his intercession for his uncle Abu Talib. Abu Talib cared for the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him), defended him, and struggled on his behalf, to the extent that he was besieged with the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) in the valley of Banu ‘Amir, and Quraysh cut off their supplies. The story is well known in history. He used to recite great poems praising the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him), until he said about him:
"Indeed, they know that our son is not a denier *** with us, nor does he concern himself with the words of liars"
This is a great statement: he says our son is not a denier with us, we do not deny him, and he does not concern himself with the words of liars or the perished. Rather, his words are truth and veracity. This is a great praise of the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him). And he says:
"And indeed, I know that the religion of Muhammad *** is the best of the religions of the earth in religion
Were it not for the blame or fear of insult *** you would have seen us lenient and clear regarding that"

This is almost faith, were it not that the man did not believe. When his death approached
The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) came to him, and with him were two men from Quraysh. So the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "O uncle, say 'There is no god but Allah,' a word with which I will argue for you before Allah." But every time the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said this, the two men from Quraysh said, "Do you desire to turn away from the religion of ‘Abd al-Muttalib?"
, look at the bad company,
till Abu Talib said as his last statement that he was on the religion of `Abdul Muttalib and refused to say, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.' فكان آخر ما قال أنه على ملة عبد المطلب ، وأبى أن يقول لا إله إلا الله
Sahih al-Bukhari 1360
, O Allah, conclude for us with a happy ending. He refused to say "There is no god but Allah." The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said
So he was in a shallow part of the Fire, with two sandals on him from which his brain boiled, and he is the least of the people of the Fire in punishment. And were it not for me, he would have been in the lowest depth of the Fire. فكان في ضحضاح من نار عليه نعلان يغلي منهما دماغه وإنه لأهون أهل النار عذابا ، ولولا أنا لكان في الدرك الأسفل من النار
. The point is his saying
And were it not for me ولولا انا
. So the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) interceded for him. But did he intercede for him to be taken out of the Fire, or to have his punishment from it lightened? To lighten it, yes; but to take him out, that will not be accepted. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) or anyone else will not be accepted to take anyone from the people of the Fire out of the Fire. So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them, and it is not possible, as far as we know, that Allah would allow anyone to intercede for a disbeliever, because the disbelievers are not... Allah does not approve of them. And Allah the Exalted said:
and they cannot intercede except on behalf of one whom He approves ولا يشفعون إلا لمن ارتضى
