Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And if he had attributed to Us any words [that were not from Us], We would have seized him by the right hand. Then We would have cut out his life cord."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then He said, (Exalted and Majestic is He) — and listen to this, O you who issue fatwas without knowledge — He said:
And if Muhammad had made up about Us some [false] sayings, ولو تقول علينا بعض الأقاويل
[Al-Haqqah 69:44]
"If he had attributed to Us any words [that were not from Us]" — who is the doer of this attribution? Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). It means if he had ascribed to Us a statement We did not make
(45) We would have seized him by the right hand; (46) Then We would have cut from him the aorta. لأخذنا منه باليمين * ثم لقطعنا منه الوتين
[Al-Haqqah 69:45-46]
, meaning We would have destroyed him. The *watin* is a known vessel; if it is cut, the person dies. It means if Muhammad had said about Us what We did not say, his path would have been destruction, necessarily. O my brothers, what is the matter with you? If the one speaking is someone who is not attributed to Muhammad in knowledge or religion, and he fabricates about Allah — answer, O group — it becomes more severe and more severe. For this reason, Allah the Exalted said:
Say, "My Lord has only forbidden immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed - and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allah that for which He has not sent down authority قُلْ إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ رَبِّيَ الْفَوَاحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ وَالْإِثْمَ وَالْبَغْيَ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّ وَأَنْ تُشْرِكُوا بِاللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِهِ سُلْطَانًا
[Al-A'raf 7:33]
— complete it —
and to say about Allah what you do not know. وَأَنْ تَقُولُوا عَلَى اللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
[Al-Baqarah 2:169]
. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who lies about me deliberately will certainly come to his abode in Hell. من كذب علي متعمدا فليتبوأ مقعده من النار
Sunan Abi Dawud 3651Sahih (Al-Albani)
. So how about you, O human being, to say about Allah what you do not know? How many people issue fatwas on what they do not know in order to present themselves before people, while they are ignorant, ignorant, ignorant — with compound ignorance or simple ignorance? — Answer, O group. It is compound because the ignorant person who does not know does not know, and this is simple ignorance, and the original state for us is ignorance. Compound ignorance is the problem, it is the calamity: the one who thinks he is a scholar while he is ignorant, so his ignorance is compounded by his ignorance of reality and his ignorance of himself. He thinks he is a scholar while he is ignorant. For this reason, it is said that a man named Tuma, whose name is Tuma, claims knowledge and wisdom, and about him the poet says:
"And whoever attains knowledge without a shaykh *** will stray from the straight path
and the knowledge will become confused for him until he becomes more astray than Thomas the Wise
He gives charity in the form of women to men *** seeking thereby the gardens of bliss"
.
Meaning, he gives women to men for free, and if he gives them for free, his intercourse with them becomes unlawful sexual intercourse. He says that this Tuma says that charity with money is recommended and good, and it extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire. Charity with a dirham, a dinar, goods, or a garment — how does it become better or not to give a woman? Answer, O group. He considers it better. Charity with a woman: Allah gives a person a woman worth ten thousand, and he takes her for free. This man Tuma gives women to men as charity. He says this is charity for Allah, seeking thereby the gardens of bliss. But he reaches thereby the abyss of Hell, may Allah protect us from that. And about this, the donkey of Tuma — Tuma has a donkey he rides — the donkey said, in a way that makes you hear, the poet said, the donkey of the wise Tuma:
"If time were just, I would be the one riding *** for I am simply ignorant, and my companion is compoundly ignorant"
Yes? The donkey says: If time were just... and we do not agree with the donkey on this. But this is the donkey's saying: If time were just, I would be the one riding, and he gave the reason, saying: for I am simply ignorant, and my companion is compoundly ignorant. Which of them is more severe? The compoundly ignorant one, O group. And Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said in his book *Al-Fatwa al-Hamawiyyah*: "It is said: What has corrupted the world are only four: half a theologian, half a jurist, half a grammarian, and half a doctor". Four are those who corrupted the entire world.
Half a theologian corrupts religions, because the people of *kalam* are those who speak about creed using only their minds, claiming to be scholars while they are among the most ignorant of creation, and they corrupt religions.
Half a jurist corrupts what? The countries — may Allah suffice you from the evil of half a jurist — he corrupts the countries because he takes this person's money for that person. He issues a fatwa for one person saying it is forbidden, and the other man says to him it is permissible. So he corrupts the countries. Half a grammarian corrupts what? He corrupts what? The tongue: meaning the language. So you find he raises what should be in the accusative case and puts in the accusative what should be in the nominative case, and puts in the genitive case what should be in the accusative and nominative. And he claims to be a scholar of grammar; this corrupts the tongue.
The fourth: half a doctor corrupts what? The bodies. It is a problem: he prescribes medicine for healing, but it is for misery and destruction. A person comes to him and says there is pain in his stomach, he says, "Okay, no problem, bring the scalpel, O boy," then he cuts open his belly, then he says, "I cannot sew it up." — Listen, O man — he cuts open the person's belly, removes the pain inside, and then tells you, "Take the cut, I cannot, I do not know." If he has corrupted — answer, O group — he has corrupted the bodies, and how many doctors have destroyed the world because they are half doctors! So the important thing is that Allah the Exalted informed, and He is the Truthful, (Mighty and Majestic), He informed that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), if he had fabricated about Allah some sayings. Look at "some sayings." These sayings are on the pattern of *mafa'il*, the form of the extreme plural, meaning if he had fabricated some of many sayings
(45) We would have seized him by the right hand; (46) Then We would have cut from him the aorta. لأخذنا منه باليمين ثم لقطعنا منه الوتين
[Al-Haqqah 69:45-46]
