Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And if Allah had willed, He would have gathered them in guidance, so do not be among the ignorant."

The Shaykh : After that [Al-An'am 6:35] So who is it that gathers people in guidance and who is it that divides people in guidance? It is Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Therefore, it is incumbent upon us that if a person calls to Allah and is not answered, he should not be distressed, for he has fulfilled the obligatory duty. Guidance is in the hands of whom? It is in the hands of Allah. It is our duty to call the servants of Allah to the religion of Allah and to strive with utmost effort, but we must not neglect ourselves for the sake of others. Many people occupy themselves with others to the detriment of themselves, such that, for example, he enters into prayer while his heart is wandering in the markets. He commands what is right and forbids what is wrong, and this is not correct. You should save yourself, and part of saving yourself is calling to Allah. If the servants of Allah are guided, that is a blessing from Allah upon you and upon them. If they are not guided, you have fulfilled what is required of you. For this reason, He said: [Al-An'am 6:35] In this is an indication that whoever attempts or seeks to have Allah gather all creation in guidance is ignorant. It is absolutely impossible for Allah to gather all creation in guidance. So what is the benefit in creating the Fire? For this reason, Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said in Surat Hud: He said, the Exalted and Majestic: [Hud 11:118-119] The important thing, my brother, is to call to Allah, even if you are harmed, even if you are lied to, and be patient with what happens, for the outcome is for the righteous. But [An-Nahl 16:127] If Allah had willed, He would have gathered them in guidance, and if He had willed, He would have guided all the people together, but His wisdom forbids that. This is what I intended to speak about regarding these two verses. And if Allah wills, we will speak about Surat al-Saffat, al-Kafirun, and al-Ikhlas in the next lesson, as suggested by the brother, Shaykh Mahmud ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Sayyigh. This is a parenthetical remark for whoever it is that should please remove it. And with this ends what we intended to speak about in this session. Now let us devote ourselves to the questions, and we ask Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) to grant us success in the truth.
