Definition of fasting, with an explanation of the things that break the fast and a mention of the evidence for them.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Listen to the definition of fasting: abstaining from the things that break the fast, meaning worshipping Allah by abstaining from the things that break the fast. So what are the things that break the fast? I am not asking right now; we need to understand, man. What are the things that break the fast? Let us look: can we make something a thing that breaks the fast without evidence from the Shari'ah? No, man, it is not possible, because if you made something a thing that breaks the fast without evidence from the Shari'ah, it would follow that you would invalidate the worship of the creation without evidence. And so we say: the original state of the fasting of the Muslims is what? Validity and not invalidity, except by evidence. So let us review with you the evidence. Eating, drinking, and intercourse: these are three. These three invalidate the fast. The evidence: Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
It has been made permissible for you the night preceding fasting to go to your wives أحل لكم ليلة الصيام الرفث إلى نساءكم
[Al-Baqarah 2:187]
meaning having intercourse with your wives.
They are clothing for you and you are clothing for them. هن لباس لكم وأنتم لباس لهن
[Al-Baqarah 2:187]
One of us translated the Qur'an and said: "They are trousers for you, and you are trousers for them." Haha. What is this talk? The meaning is that the woman is a covering for her husband, and he is a covering for her. And for this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Young man, those of you who can support a wife should marry, for it keeps you from looking at strange women and preserves you from immorality يا معشر الشباب من استطاع منكم الباءة فليتزوج فإنه أغض للبصر وأحصن للفرج
Mishkat al-Masabih 3080
As for trousers, what trousers? These are not for you. Yes, in any case, this is how the one who translated the Qur'an did it; perhaps he was considering the people he was addressing, those who do not understand Arabic. All right, these are three things.
