Explaining the Obligation of Knowledge and Justice in Speech
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The fifth point: Yes, the fifth point: the obligation of knowledge and justice in speech. The obligation of knowledge and justice in speech means that you do not speak except with knowledge, and you do not say anything except with justice.
And the evidence for this is the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Isra 17:36]. What does "do not stand" mean? It means do not follow what you have no knowledge of [Al-Isra 17:36]. What reaches a person is either through hearing, or through sight, or through conjecture, which is the heart. You are accountable for all of this [Al-Isra 17:36].
And in this fitnah (trial), we hear a lot without knowing, so it is not permissible for a person to speak except with knowledge, with knowledge that clears his conscience before Allah when he meets Him on the Day of Resurrection, because Allah says:[Al-Isra 17:36]. Be careful, do not speak except with knowledge. Even if you heard it from someone whose report is questionable, or from someone whose report is rejected due to the strength of the accusation that necessitates rejecting his report, do not speak. Do not say anything except with knowledge. Likewise, do not judge except with justice. As for acting on conjecture and acting unjustly, that is forbidden for you. Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nahl 16:90] to the end of the verse. And He said: [Al-An'am 6:152] Hey, people, people. I hate him with religious hatred for the sake of Allah; I draw near to Allah by hating him and opposing him. So is it permissible for me to speak about him without justice? There is no god but Allah. I hate him with religious hatred because he is a disbeliever, a disbeliever. So is it permissible for me to say about him without justice? Hey. Masha'Allah, one person says, "Yes." Yes. We ask Allah to open up for us, and He is not among those who open up. Okay. Listen to the verse and let's see . What do you say after hearing this verse? Or does it need interpretation? [Al-Ma'idah 5:8] What does "with justice" mean? With fairness [Al-Ma'idah 5:8]. Let not your hatred of a people, because they prevented you from entering the Sacred Mosque, lead you to act unjustly. No. [Al-Ma'idah 5:8]. I made a mistake in the verse first [Al-Ma'idah 5:8] meaning, let not your hatred of them lead you to lack of justice. [Al-Ma'idah 5:8]. So what is your answer now? If I hate him with religious hatred, is it permissible for me to say about him without justice? No, because Allah said: [Al-Ma'idah 5:8]. Okay, so my brothers, it is obligatory that we do not speak except with knowledge, and that we do not say and do not judge except with justice, because this is what Allah commanded us, this is what Allah commanded us. And you hear on the radio things that you testify are lies; you hear on the radio things that you know with certainty are lies, is that not so? Yes, everyone hears on the radio things that we know with certainty, like the sun, are lies.
And the evidence for this is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge
ولا تقف ما ليس لك به علمIndeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart - about all those [one] will be questioned.
إن السمع والبصر والفؤاد كل أولئك كان عنه مسؤولاIndeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart - about all those [one] will be questioned.
إن السمع والبصر والفؤاد كل أولئك كان عنه مسؤولاAnd in this fitnah (trial), we hear a lot without knowing, so it is not permissible for a person to speak except with knowledge, with knowledge that clears his conscience before Allah when he meets Him on the Day of Resurrection, because Allah says:
