The Greatest Name of Allah is al-Hayy al-Qayyum, and an explanation of its virtue and the conditions of supplication?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : One should supplicate by the Greatest Name of Allah, by which, if He is called, He responds, and by which, if He is asked, He gives. The Greatest Name of Allah is mentioned in the Qur'an in three places.
Who can count them for us? No. Who can count them for us while he is standing so that the people can hear? In three places.
The student: In one place, in Surat al-Ikhlas.

The Shaykh : No. Well, please go ahead. The Greatest Name of Allah is mentioned in three places in the Qur'an.
The student: The first is in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence
[Al-Baqarah 2:255]
.

The Shaykh : In which surah?
The student: In Surat al-Baqarah.

The Shaykh : That is one.
The student: The second is in Surat al-Imran
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence
[Al-Baqarah 2:255]
.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: The third is in Surat Ta-Ha
And [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence
[Taha 20:111]
.

The Shaykh : Well done, perfect. The Greatest Name of Allah is al-Hayy al-Qayyum. Al-Hayy al-Qayyum, and this is mentioned in the Qur'an in three places. In which surah? Yes.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : How many are between you and one, two, three? There are three men between you and him. There are only three men between you and the one who answered. Did you not hear it?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, well, please go ahead.
The student: The first is in Surat al-Imran.

The Shaykh : Fine.
The student: The second place is in Surat Ta-Ha.

The Shaykh : Yes, and the third.
The student: In Surat al-Baqarah.

The Shaykh : Well, take a rest. Listen, my brothers: al-Hayy al-Qayyum is mentioned in the Qur'an in three places, and it is the Greatest Name of Allah. It is in the Verse of the Throne, in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence
[Al-Baqarah 2:255]
. And what do you know about the Verse of the Throne? The Verse of the Throne is
If a person reads it in a night, a protector from Allah will remain over him, and no Shaytan will approach him until morning.
. The Verse of the Throne is
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
[Al-Baqarah 2:255]
. Read it in a night, and no Shaytan will approach you, and a protector from Allah will remain over you until morning.
The second place: at the beginning of Surat al-Imran
(2) Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. (3) He has sent down upon you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth
[Ali 'Imran 3:2-3]
. The third place: in Surat Ta-Ha, in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And the faces humbled.
, meaning they humbled and submitted.
And [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. And he will have failed who carries injustice.
[Taha 20:111]
.
This Greatest Name, if you seek nearness to Allah with it in your supplication and you say: "O Ever-Living, O Sustainer," this is among the causes of the acceptance of supplication. And the acceptance of supplication is much faster than anything else when Allah answers the supplication, because when He wills a thing, what does He do? He says to it "Be," and it is, without delay. The fā' indicates sequence and immediacy, and without repetition
And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.
[Al-Qamar 54:50]
. Sulayman (peace be upon him) asked those around him to bring the throne of Bilqis from Yemen to Sham, a journey of a month.
(38) [Solomon] said, "O assembly [of jinn], which of you will bring me her throne before they come to me in submission?" (39) A powerful one from among the jinn said, "I will bring it to you before you rise from your place, and indeed, I am for this [task] strong and trustworthy."
[An-Naml 27:38-39]
. A jinni ifrit, the strong, mighty ifrit, said: "I will bring it to you before you rise from your place." From where? From Yemen to Sham.
and indeed, I am for this [task] strong and trustworthy." وإني عليه لقوي أمين
[An-Naml 27:39]
. Why did he say?
and indeed, I am for this [task] strong and trustworthy." وإني عليه لقوي أمين
[An-Naml 27:39]
. In order to encourage Sulayman to say this:
Said one who had knowledge from the Scripture, "I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you."
[An-Naml 27:40]
. Which is faster, the second or the first? The first. And what did he say? "I will bring it to you before you rise from your place." And the second said: "I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you." You look far away, move like this, a moment. Which is faster? The second. The second. The scholars said: "Because the one who had knowledge of the Book supplicated by the Greatest Name of Allah, so the angels carried it and brought it". The power of the angels is stronger than the power of the jinn. The jinn have power to ascend to the sky and take from it seats for listening.
As for the angels, they are faster and greater. Jibril (peace be upon him) ascended with Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to the seven heavens in how many days? In one night. He descended with him and came to Makkah in one night, because the power of the angels is not like the power of the jinn; they are stronger than the jinn. So he brought it
And when [Solomon] saw it placed before him, he said, "This is from the favor of my Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful. فَلَمَّا رَآهُ مُسْتَقِرًّا عِنْدَهُ قَالَ هَذَا مِنْ فَضْلِ رَبِّي لِيَبْلُوَنِي أَأَشْكُرُ أَمْ أَكْفُرُ
[An-Naml 27:40]
. The point is that the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) said: This one who had knowledge of the Book supplicated to Allah by the Greatest Name of Allah.
It is also necessary in supplication that you call upon Allah while being certain of the response. Do not call upon Allah while in doubt whether He will answer or not. Call upon Allah and be decisive in your supplication. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
None of you should say: ‘O Allah forgive me if You wish. O Allah have mercy on me if You wish.’
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3497Sahih (Darussalam)
.
Some people now say: "May Allah have mercy on him, if Allah wills," or "May Allah forgive him, if Allah wills." And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
No, do not say: O Allah, forgive me if You will; O Allah, have mercy on me if You will. For Allah is not compelled to do anything, but rather, have the greatest desire and be resolute in your request.
. Say: "O Allah, forgive me." Then Allah will respond to you. You must be certain of the response from Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Some people say: "I will supplicate and try to see if it is answered or not." This is not permissible. Call upon Allah while being certain of the response.
