Tawhid in Turning to Allah and Supplication

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : There is also a fourth issue we would like to mention tonight: the tawhid (oneness of Allah) of Allah the Exalted in turning to Him. We have referred to this previously, but supplication is part of it, or one of its branches. Supplication is one of its branches. So we affirm the oneness of Allah the Exalted in supplication, meaning we do not call upon anyone other than Allah, because anyone other than Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, does not possess anything for us, especially if they are dead. A dead person is a corpse. If they are not among the prophets, the earth has consumed them by default. If they are among the prophets, the earth does not consume the bodies of the prophets, for Allah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the prophets. As for those other than the prophets, the default is that the earth consumes them. Therefore, it is impossible for any of the dead to benefit any of the living, ever. Allah Mighty and Majestic said:
(5) And who is more astray than he who invokes besides Allah those who will not respond to him until the Day of Resurrection, and they, of their invocation, are unaware. (6) And when the people are gathered [that Day], they [who were invoked] will be enemies to them, and they will be deniers of their worship. ومن أضل ممن يدعو من دون الله من لا يستجيب له إلى يوم القيامة وهم عن دعائهم غافلون وإذا حشر الناس كانوا لهم أعداء وكانوا بعبادتهم كافرين
[Al-Ahqaf 46:5-6]
And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, said:
If you invoke them, they do not hear your supplication; and if they heard, they would not respond to you. And on the Day of Resurrection they will deny your association إن تدعوهم لا يسمعوا دعاءكم ولو سمعوا ما استجابوا لكم ويوم القيامة يكفرون بشرككم
[Fatir 35:14]
So Allah called their supplication shirk (associating partners with Allah).
And on the Day of Resurrection they will deny your association. And none can inform you like [one] Acquainted [with all matters]. ويوم القيامة يكفرون بشرككم ولا ينبّئئك مثل خبير
[Fatir 35:14]
Therefore, it is not permissible for us to call upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) or to say, "O Messenger of Allah, help me."
