The questioner : The Shaykh, may Allah reward you: Some people say: If a person begins calling a people in whom shirk (associating partners with Allah), circumambulating graves, calling for aid, and seeking help from other than Allah are prevalent, the person should begin with the oneness of lordship and not speak about the oneness of worship, because the oneness of worship will divide the people around him. Is this statement correct?
The Shaykh : By Allah, it is obligatory for a person to look into the matter and probe the condition of the people. If they are called, or if the oneness of lordship is explained to them, the person must necessarily digress and say, for example, "This Lord who created everything, it is not permissible for us to equate Him with others who do not create anything," as He the Mighty and Majestic said:[Al-A'raf 7:191]. This is because I fear that if he continues to establish the oneness of lordship, he will be unable to establish the oneness of worship later. So let him feed this with that, just as the messengers, peace and blessings be upon them, when they called their people, would say: "Worship Allah and avoid the taghut."
