Continuation of the exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “They deceive Allah and those who believe, but they do not deceive except themselves, and they do not perceive,” and the difference between deception and stratagem.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This deception and this stratagem lead to bringing down the opponent without him being aware of it; that is what deception is. These people, when they say that they are believers, we have gained, they say, we have gained, because we deceived Muhammad and his Companions. But in reality, did they deceive the Messenger and his Companions? No. They deceived Allah. For this reason, He said:
They [think to] deceive Allah and those who believeيخادعون الله والذين آمنوا
[Al-Baqarah 2:9]
And at the head of those who believe is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He the Exalted said:
but they deceive not except themselvesوما يخدعون إلا أنفسهم
[Al-Baqarah 2:9]

So if someone were to ask: What is the aspect of their deception of Allah and those who believe?
We say: The aspect of their deception is that when they display faith, their wealth and their necks are safe from being killed, and they become inviolable. So they say, we deceived Muhammad and his Companions by saying that they are believers when they are not believers. But by saying this, they were saved from being treated as disbelievers are treated. Allah the Exalted said:
but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not. وما يخدعون إلا أنفسهم وما يشعرون
[Al-Baqarah 2:9]
Meaning that they have no perception by which it becomes clear that they are deceiving themselves, because there is a veil over their eyes, and their hearts are sealed, and so is their hearing. Yes.
