The benefits of the verse: “Those are the ones who purchased error in exchange for guidance, but their trade did not profit them, nor were they guided”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
In this noble verse, there are several benefits, among which is: making clear the foolishness of these hypocrites, who purchased error in exchange for guidance. Another benefit of this noble verse is: that it is permissible to express a meaning using a phrase that indicates it, even if that phrase was not originally coined for that specific meaning. This is because Allah expressed their choice of error over guidance by saying that they “purchased” it. So, if the meaning is clear, there is no harm in expressing it with what indicates it; indeed, this adds beauty and elegance to the meaning. Another benefit of this noble verse is: that a person may think he has done a good deed, when in fact he has done a bad one. This is because these people purchased error in exchange for guidance, thinking that they were on the right path and that they were gaining profit. So Allah the Exalted said:
so their transaction has brought no profitفما ربحت تجارتهم
[Al-Baqarah 2:16]
. Another benefit of the noble verse is: that the criterion for profit and loss lies in following the guidance. This is because Allah negated the profit of the devils, because they chose error over guidance. So the criterion for profit and loss is guidance. This is supported by the saying of Allah the Exalted:
(1) By time, (2) Indeed, mankind is in loss, (3) Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience. والعصر إن الإنسان لفي خسر إلا الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات وتواصوا بالحق وتواصوا بالصبر
[Al-'Asr 103:1-3]
and His saying:
O you who have believed, shall I guide you to a transaction that will save you from a painful punishment? يا أيها الذين آمنوا هل أدلكم على تجارة تنجيكم من عذاب أليم
[As-Saf 61:10]
Complete the verse, my son.

You believe in Allah and His Messenger and strive in the cause of Allah with your wealth and your souls. That is better for you, if you only knew. That is better for you. Stop, because if we connect
[Fasting for] a limited number of days. So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then an equal number of days [are to be made up]. And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] - a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day]. And whoever volunteers excess - it is better for him. But to fast is best for you, if you only knew. إن كنتم تعلمون
[Al-Baqarah 2:184]
to what came before it, the goodness would be conditional upon our knowing, whereas it is better whether we know or not. Well, the important point in any case is that the profitable trade is this: belief in Allah and His Messenger, and striving in the cause of Allah with wealth and soul. Another benefit of the noble verse is: that these people will not be guided
nor were they guided.وما كانوا مهتدين
[Al-Baqarah 2:16]
, because they think that they are doing a good work. Therefore, they do not return. And so, every open sinner or innovator who thinks that he is on the right path will not return. So the simple ignorant person is better than this one, because this one is a complex ignoramus who thinks he is on the right path when he is not. O Allah, guide us to Your straight path.
