Continuation of the benefits of the verse: “As for those who believe, they know that it is the truth from their Lord. But as for those who disbelieve, they say: ‘What did Allah intend by this as a parable? He misguides thereby many and guides thereby many. And He does not misguide thereby except the defiantly disobedient.’”

Among the benefits of the noble verse is that the word “many” does not indicate “the majority,” based on His saying:
He misleads many thereby and guides many thereby يضل به كثيرا ويهدي به كثيرا
[Al-Baqarah 2:26]
Here, if we were to take the apparent meaning of the verse, the misguided and the guided would be equal, but that is not the case. For of the children of Adam, nine hundred and ninety-nine out of a thousand are misguided, and one out of a thousand is guided. So the word “many” does not mean “the majority.” Accordingly, if a person said, “I have many dirhams for you,” and gave him three, is that correct? Yes, it is. Because “many” is used for a small amount, a large amount, and the majority. Among the benefits of the noble verse is that the misguidance of those who are misguided is not merely by will, but due to the existence of the cause that led to Allah’s misguiding the servant, based on His saying:
And He misleads not except the defiantly disobedient, وما يضل به إلا الفاسقين
[Al-Baqarah 2:26]
It also contains a refutation of the Qadariyyah who said that the actions of the servants have no connection to the action of Allah, based on His saying:
And He misleads not except the defiantly disobedient,وما يضل به إلا الفاسقين
[Al-Baqarah 2:26]
It also contains a refutation of the Jabriyyah, because the open sinfulness of these defiantly disobedient people was a cause, and it was by His will. Thus, it contains a refutation of two groups: the Qadariyyah who deny (divine decree) and the Qadariyyah who affirm (divine decree).
