Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Then Allah the Exalted said:
So He caused them to slipفأزلهما
And in a reading:
So He turned them awayفأزالهما
The difference between them is that
Caused them to slipأزلهما
means He caused them to stumble, and
Turned them awayأزالهما
means He turned them away. So according to the first reading, Satan caused them to stumble, so they slipped from it and were brought out of it, and according to the second, the meaning is He turned them away, meaning He was the cause of their turning away.
Satan caused them to slip أزلهما الشيطان
Which Satan is it? The apparent meaning is the Satan who refused to prostrate to Adam; he intended to mislead them so that they would be like him in disobedience to Allah.
But Satan caused them to slip out of itأزلهما الشيطان عنها
[Al-Baqarah 2:36]
From what? From Paradise or from the tree? From Paradise. For this reason, He said:
and removed them from that [condition] in which they had been فأخرجهما مما كانا فيه
[Al-Baqarah 2:36]
