The benefits of the verse: “So Satan caused them to slip from it, and he brought them out of what they were in, and We said: ‘Descend, some of you will be enemies to others, and for you on the earth is a settled place and enjoyment for a time’”

He misleads them until they become like him. [Al-Baqarah 2:36] That is: from Paradise or from the tree? From Paradise. For this reason, He said: [Al-Baqarah 2:36] That is, Allah said to them: [Al-Baqarah 2:36] The address is to the plural, and He did not say “Descend” (dual), so who was added to Adam and his wife? Satan. For this reason, He said: [Al-Baqarah 2:36] Yes.
[Al-Baqarah 2:36] Who is the enemy of the other? Satan is the enemy of Adam and Hawwa. [Al-Baqarah 2:36] This means that you will settle on the earth and enjoy therein what Allah has given you of blessings, but not permanently, rather which is the Hour of Resurrection.
Among the benefits of the verse is first: guarding against the slip that Satan dictates, as He said:[Al-Baqarah 2:36].
And among its benefits, when combined with another verse, is that Satan deceives the children of Adam just as he deceived their father. Indeed, Satan did not refrain from saying to each of them, “Do not eat from this tree,” but rather he guided them through deception.[Al-A'raf 7:21] [Taha 20:120] He brought forth things that would deceive them into eating from the tree. Therefore, let a person beware of the whispers of Satan. Satan may come to a person and whisper to him, making the sin small in his eyes. Then, if it is a major sin and he cannot make it seem small, he will not be able to repent from it, which makes the choice easier for him. Therefore, beware of your enemy; beware of your enemy deceiving you.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that Satan is an enemy to man, as the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:36].
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that Satan strives to remove good from the children of Adam and to cause them to fall into evil.
And from that is that Satan casts sadness, worry, and grief into the heart of a man, as the Exalted said:[Al-Mujadila 58:10] Here He says: [Al-Baqarah 2:36] from bliss to a place where they do not find that.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that the saying of the Exalted Allah can be legislative or cosmic. His saying:[Al-Baqarah 2:35] is legislative, and His saying: [Al-Baqarah 2:36] appears to be cosmic, because He, Glorified and Exalted is He, knows that if the matter were returned to them, they would not have descended. But this is a cosmic statement, and it is possible that it is a legislative statement, but the closest to me is that it is a cosmic statement, and Allah knows best.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that Paradise is in a high place. Where is this taken from? From His saying: and descending is from high to low.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that Satan was with them in Paradise, as He said:[Al-Baqarah 2:36] Consider this benefit; is it correct or not?
The student: It is correct.
The Shaykh : It is possible to say: meaning from the sky, from Paradise, with respect to Adam and Hawwa, and from the sky with respect to Satan. And it is possible that Satan entered Paradise as a trial in order to mislead our parents.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that it is not possible for the children of Adam to live except on the earth; they cannot live except on the earth, as the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:36] And this is supported by His saying, the Exalted: [Al-A'raf 7:25].
And based on that, we know that the attempt of the disbelievers to live other than on the earth, whether in some planets or in some vessels, is an attempt that accomplishes nothing, because their settled place must be the earth.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that there is no permanence for the children of Adam in this world, as He said:[Al-Baqarah 2:36].
Then Allah, the Exalted, said:[Al-Baqarah 2:37] “Taqba” means that He took and accepted and was pleased, despite the words from Allah, the Exalted. And in a reading: [Al-Baqarah 2:37] the actor here is the words. So what are these words? The words are His saying, the Exalted: [Al-A'raf 7:23] So the words are the admission of Adam and Hawwa that they had sinned and wronged themselves, and their supplication to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, that if He did not forgive them and have mercy on them, they would be among the losers.
