He repeats it as four, because when he began it as four, he is obligated to make it up as four.

The questioner : ... the question, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : He says: He entered with the imam while he was a traveler and the imam was a resident. This one who entered made an error, then made it up afterwards. Does he make it up as two rak'ahs or not? We say: He makes it up as four.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : You entered with the imam while he was praying four, then you made an error and left, performed wudu', and came back when the imam had finished, when he had completed the prayer. Do you pray four or two?

The questioner : By Allah, O Shaykh ...

The Shaykh : It is a mistake, because when you entered with the resident imam, the prayer of four rak'ahs became obligatory upon you, so you pray four.

The questioner : ... .
