A man who shaves his beard and lets his garment hang below the ankles proposes to a woman; should she accept him? Or should she condition it on his rectitude? And does the phrase "one whose religion and character you are pleased with" mean Islam?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : A man who shaves his beard and lets his garment hang below the ankles proposes to a woman; should she accept him?
And is it permissible for her to accept him on the condition that he remains upright in the religion of Allah?
And what is your opinion of what some say: when it is said, "marry the one whose religion and character you are pleased with," they say, "His religion is Islam, and we are pleased with it." I hope you will answer me: what about the Jew?
This is what is needed, meaning it is as if he is saying: if a Muslim comes to you, to be cautious of the Jew and the Christian. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) certainly did not intend this.
I see a distinction in this: if a man proposes to a woman and he shaves his beard, or lets his garment hang below the ankles, or smokes, or does something similar.
If the woman is older and the suitors have run out for her and she fears remaining unmarried, there is no harm in accepting him out of dire necessity. But if she is young and there are many suitors for her, then there is no good in it, even if they condition it on his rectitude, for many of them never commit to it.
And many of them, may Allah guide us among those He has guided, deviate after their rectitude. How many complaints reach us from some women who marry a man who is a mosque muezzin or a mosque imam who is upright, but then he keeps the company of people in whom there is no good, and he corrupts [her]. We ask Allah for safety.
