Ruling on Cursing Those Who Shave Their Beards

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I prayed the Friday prayer in one of the mosques, and one of the scholars was delivering the sermon. He said in his sermon: "The one who shaves his beard is cursed," and cursing means being expelled from the mercy of Allah. So please issue a ruling for us, may Allah reward you with good?

Answer:
This requires consideration, and it is not permissible to apply the curse to him due to the lack of evidence. However, in any case, he is in danger, he is a sinner, and he is contrary to the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), where he said:
Trim the mustaches and let the beards grow.قصوا الشوارب، وأعفوا اللحى
Trim closely the moustache, and grow beard, and thus act against the fire-worshippers.جزوا الشوارب وأرخوا اللحى، خالفوا المجوس
Sahih Muslim 260
As for the curse, we do not know of any evidence for it. Perhaps he took it from the cursing of the women who pluck their eyebrows, those who have their eyebrows tattooed, those who join their hair, and those who have their hair joined; because they alter the creation of Allah. He said: This is not the creation of Allah; so he analogized it to them. But analogy should not be applied in this case. It is not appropriate to use analogy. We ask Allah to guide everyone.

Question : You issued these rulings after these days, and the fatwa was distributed among many people. You are the one—may Allah preserve you—who is the leader in the fatwa regarding shaving the beard. You said: It is not permissible except that a person, before he dies, repents to Allah. As for while he is alive, it is not permissible for him to shave it and leave some of it?

Answer: This is not what was asked about. This person is saying: The preacher curses the one who shaves his beard, he curses him. As for it being forbidden, I say: It is forbidden... whoever shaves it, it is forbidden, and whoever shortens it. But we do not say: May Allah curse him. We do not curse him. We say: He has disobeyed his Lord, and he must repent to Allah. But we do not say: May Allah curse him.
