A man whose salary is not sufficient for his household expenses: Is it permissible for the charitable to collect money for him so that he can perform the obligatory Hajj?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Your Eminence, this man’s salary is four thousand, or more, or less, and he has rent and the maintenance of his children. Is it permissible for the charitable to collect money for him? He wants to travel, whether with a group or without a group, he wants to travel for Hajj. Is it permissible for the charitable to collect money for him so that he becomes able to go to Hajj?

The Shaykh : Is this Hajj obligatory or voluntary?

The questioner : It is obligatory, and he is perhaps forty years old and has not performed Hajj.

The Shaykh : What I see is that they should not collect money for him, because collecting for him is a humiliation for him: “Give us for so-and-so, give us for so-and-so.” This is humiliation. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, did not make Hajj obligatory upon him as long as his salary is four thousand, which goes toward the rent of the house and the maintenance of the children. That is from the grace of Allah that Allah lightened it for him and did not make Hajj obligatory upon him.

The questioner : Is it dropped from him?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is dropped from him, because He said:
for whoever is able to find thereto a way لمن استطاع إليه سبيلا
[Ali 'Imran 3:97]
