The Shaykh : And this is Jabir ibn Sulayman asking: What is the authenticity of the hadith of 'Urwah ibn 'Amr? He said:
Taking an omen as a bad sign was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: "The best of it is a good omen, and it does not turn back a Muslim. If one of you sees something he dislikes, let him say: O Allah, none brings forth good deeds except You, and none averts evil deeds except You, and there is no power and no strength except by You."
And what is the meaning of "The best of it is a good omen"?
This hadith is hasan or good. The meaning of a good omen is that a person takes a good omen, just as the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) liked a good omen. That is, he did not take an omen as a bad sign from things. If he saw good, he would take a good omen that what pleased him in that matter would be completed for him.
