What is the ruling on the one who makes du'a' for the deceased at his burial while the people say "Ameen"?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh: In our Nubian lands, when a person dies and the people finish burying him, one of the attendees stands up and makes du'a', and the people say "Ameen" behind him, and they are consistent in doing this. May Allah reward you, we want to know the correct way of making du'a'?

The Shaykh : These people, when they finish burying the deceased, one of them stands up and makes du'a'. They took this from the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that when he finished burying the deceased, he would stand over him and say:
Seek forgiveness for your brother, and ask Allah for steadfastness for him استغفروا لأخيكم، واسألوا له التثبيت
So their action has a basis, but they erred in the manner of the action, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not make du'a' for his companions, nor did the Companions make du'a' for one another at the burial. Rather, it is said to the people: "Seek forgiveness for your brother, and ask Allah for steadfastness for him," and each person seeks forgiveness for him individually. This is the Sunnah.

The questioner : A question, if you please, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : One question, may Allah reward you.
