What is the ruling on reciting al-Fatihah after burying the deceased?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on reciting al-Fatihah after burying the deceased?

Answer:
There is no basis for this, neither before his burial, nor after his burial, nor at the time of his burial. The burial involves matters that are denounced, among which is: reciting the Qur'an during the burial, before it, after it, or at the time of it.
And among them is: establishing the adhan in the grave, and the iqamah in the grave. This has no basis.
And among them is: reciting the Qur'an in the grave. All of this is something that has no basis.
And among them is: what they call al-talqin. It has come in hadiths that are not authentic, rather fabricated; that one stands at his head and says: "Then you left the world and you testified: that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and you were pleased with Allah as Lord, and with Islam as religion, and with Muhammad as Messenger, and with the Qur'an as leader." This is something that has no basis. The hadiths that came regarding it are not authentic. Rather, it is known from some of the people of Sham, and they are not a model to follow.
The result is that al-talqin has no basis, and the deceased does not benefit from it. The deceased is in the state in which he died. He is not in the state of the new al-talqin, but rather he is in the state in which he died.
And what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed was that he would stand after the death, after the burial, and say to his companions, and those he was most pleased with:
Seek forgiveness for your brother, and beg steadfastness for him, for he will be questioned now.استغفروا لأخيكم، واسألوا له التَّثبيت، فإنه الآن يُسأل
Sunan Abi Dawud 3221Sahih (Al-Albani)
, this is what is beneficial: seeking forgiveness for him and making du'a' for him. So when he finished burying the deceased, he would stand over him, (peace and blessings be upon him), and say:
Seek forgiveness for your brother, and beg steadfastness for him, for he will be questioned now.استغفروا لأخيكم، واسألوا له التَّثبيت، فإنه الآن يُسأل
Sunan Abi Dawud 3221Sahih (Al-Albani)
. So this is what is prescribed after the burial: one stands over it and says: "O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, firm him with the firm word, O Allah, firm him upon the truth," words to this effect, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded. As for the teaching (ta'lim) that some people do now: "O so-and-so, son of so-and-so," calling him by his mother's name as it came in the fabricated hadiths, then he says... and so on, this has no basis.
